Shiv Panchakshari Stotra is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and is considered as one of the most powerful mantra for appeasing Lord Shiva. The word Panchakshar means five letters, which are Na, Ma, Shi, Va and Ya. These letters represents the five elements of nature, which are Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space respectively. This stotram was created by Shri Adi Shankaracharya in praise of Lord Shiva. (1) Nagendra haraya Trilochanaya
Bhasmanga ragaya Maheswaraya
Nityaya shuddhaya Digambaraya
Tasmai Nakaraya Namah Shivaya

Meaning : I salute to Lord Shiva represented by the letter "Na", who have snakes as his garland, have three eyes, body smeared with sacred ashes, and is God of Gods, eternally pure, and have all the four directions as his clothes

Mandakini salil chandan charchitaya
Nandishwara pramath nath Maheshwaraya
Mandaar pushpa bahupushpa supujitaaya
Tasmai Makaraya Namah Shivaya

Meaning : My salutation to Lord Shiva represented by letter "Ma", who is worshipped with Mandakini river's water, smeared with sandal paste is the first Lord of Nandi is worshipped by Mandaar and many other flowers, and is a great Lord.

Meaning : I salute to great Lord Shiva, who is like a newly rising Sun, destroyer of King Daksh, whose throat is Blue, and Bull in his flag, and is represented by the word "Shi"

Meaning : I pray to Lord Shiva, who is worshipped by Sages Vashishtha, Agastya, Gautam and Lord Indra; Sun, Moon and Fire are his Eyes, and is represented by letter "Va"
