Information about Online Mahishasura Mardini Stotram and Pooja
A very popular devotional stotra dedicated to Goddess Durga known as Mahishasur Mardini Stotra was composed by Adi Guru Shankaracharya. This stotra is dedicated to fierce form of Goddess Durga, who slayed the buffalo demon Mahishasura. As per Hindu Mythology, Goddess Durga is the fierce form of Goddess Parvati, and is depicted having 10 arms carrying weapon and sitting on a Tiger. It is believed that this incarnation of Goddess Durga fights and destroys any kind of Evil and Demonic forces, thereby establishing Peace, Prosperity and Dharma.
Story of Demon Mahishasura :
As per legends, Mahishasura was the Grandson of Sage Kashyap and a very powerful Demon, who was able to change his shapes. He hated Devtas, and wanted to take revenge upon them. For this, he prayed to Lord Brahma for a very long period and got a boon from Lord Brahma that he could not be killed by anybody except for a woman. Hence after this boon, he literally became invincible and started war against Devtas, in which he eventually defeated all of them, and took possession of Devlok. Harassed Devtas sought help from Trinity viz Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. To alleviate their problems, the Gods of Trinity combined their divine energies and created Goddess Durga, who ultimately defeated and killed Mahishasura after a fierce battle that lasted for 9 days. Thus, Devi Durga became a symbol of ultimate weapon for destruction of all kind of Evil forces.
