Legend Behind Dassehra :
Vijaya Dashami is celebrated in the remembrance of victory of Good over Evil as it is the day when Lord Rama killed the Demon Ravana. Demon Ravana had kidnapped the Lord Rama's beloved wife Sita and held her captive in his kingdom (Lanka), to win Sita's love but Devi Sita suffered all tortures of Demon Ravana bravely and waited for Lord Rama. Lord Rama had performed the Chandi Homam and invoked the blessings of Goddess Durga, who blessed him with secret knowledge of the way to kill Demon Ravana. Lord Rama, his brother Lakshmana, their follower Lord Hanuman and the monkeys fought a great battle to rescue Devi Sita. The war lasted for 10 days and on the day of Ashwin Shukla Dashmi, Lord Rama and his team found Goddess Sita and defeated the Demon Ravana. The glorious victory of Lord Rama was celebrated with great happiness, which continues to be followed till date in the form of Dussehra / Vijaya Dashmi.
